... they say a picture is worth a thousand words! How to make sense of the 'labyrinthine' structure of Tractor Pulling in the UK.
This schematic hopefully explains the hierarchy within the 'official' side of UK Tractor Pulling. Pulling in Europe is regulated by the ETPC (European Tractor Pulling Committee) and each country in turn has its own national body, which in the case of the UK is the BTPA (British Tractor Pullers Association) for the majority of Pullers and the PPA (Power Pulling Association) for the 'Mini Pullers'.
The staging of the actual competitive events is undertaken by the individual Clubs which are affiliated to the BTPA, with the exception of the following: -
PPA events - all the 'Mini Puller' events are staged by the PPA, sometimes in conjunction with another Club or Association, for example the NWTPC for Great Eccleston and SWTPA for Bristol (Wraxall).
STTPA events - the STTPA is a Scottish breakaway group from the STPC which are affiliated to the SWTPA and run under the auspices of the IOPD (the governing body for motor sport in the UK).
SWTPA events - all the SWTPA competitive events are organised and staged by the SWTPA under ETPC Safety Rules but run outside the auspices of the BTPA.
Confusing isn't it! Now to the Independent Pullers (a.k.a. the 'Outlaws') who run outside ETPC and BTPA rules. Each Sledge or event runs under its own rules. Currently arguably the most stringent are those of Peak Vale Pulling...
